About the game

Each board in Checkmate hands you a different arrangement of chess pieces, and you take the Black side. Your job is to trap the White king so it has no escape. Some maps leave your own king off the board, which changes how you plan every move.

A round feels like a small puzzle. You study the position, pick a piece, and look for the sequence that ends the game. There are 500 maps to work through and 24 achievements to collect along the way.

How to play

• Regular chess rules apply, with a few twists listed below.
• You control Black and must put the White king in checkmate.
• Your Black king may be missing from some maps.
• Black pawns advance from the bottom of the board toward the top, while White pawns come down from the top.
